On January 18th, 2007, Josh Buck, one of our pastors, was in a
swimming accident while on vacation in Mexico. The accident is considered
a near drowning. In the process Josh fractured his neck, damaged his
spinal cord and had to under go emergency surgery following his airlift to
a Miami hospital. He was unable to breathe on his own, intubated, and in
an induced coma. Much more quickly than expected, Josh was taken off the
ventilator, breathing on his own and moved from ICU to a neuro unit. Josh
was once again airlifted, this time home to Grand Rapids, where he
was a patient at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital for 3 months. Right
now Josh is attempting to regain movement and function of his body.
Rehab is difficult but Josh's spirits have been slowly lifting. He has
moved in to a temporary home with his family until a permanent solution
can be found to their housing issues (their home is not accessible for
Josh). This situation comes on the heels of the death of the Buck's
youngest daughter Ava Nicole, only 24 months ago. Please pray for Josh and
his family (as Shelly just gave birth to Baby Ephram), as well as Josh's
co-pastor Jason Grate (and family). Please also pray for our church during
this time.
